March is the first month that we start to see peaks of spring and summer start to come out, and it always gets me excited for the warmer months ahead. By this time I’m starting to get bored of winter fashion, wearing jumpers and boots all the time and having to always think about a coat. I just want to be able to wear jeans and sandal’s, throw on a dress and a jacket and just head out for the day, without the worry of the cold weather. So, to start getting your spring/summer style juices flowing, I thought I would share 4 pre-summer trends, which you can start to incorporate into your style now and also through the summer months.
RUFFLES: These were a massive trend last spring/ summer and they are having another big comeback. They work best when you keep them simple, on the trims of tops or dresses and look gorgeous on sleeves. They look so feminine and really add a fresh, spring like vibe to your outfit.
LACE: Every spring/summer lace seems to be in trend in some way, however this year it’s all about doing it head to toe. So, whether that’s wearing a fully lace dress or two lace separate’s, to create the all lace illusion. However, you have to really careful and pick your colours and style’s carefully. So think about pairing light neutral shades together, but focus the darker shade on the bottom half, such as a white lace top but a blush pink shirt. Again this looks so youthful and fresh and something I love to incorporate into my summer wardrobe.
EMBROIDERY OVERLAY: Embroidery has come back to clothing with a bang, and this year it’s all about over lays. So, wearing a black vest top with a sheer, embroided lace top over it, or an overlay of embroidery as a feature on a dress, top or a skirt. It looks lovely in so many shades and is available in multiple styles, you just need to find the one that’s right for you!
CUT OUTS: Lace year it was just starting to come through with the cold shoulder top trend, however now it’s all over the body, with cut outs on the arms, neck, waist and stomach. However, you need to play it carefully and make sure you pick an item that still looks classy and chic. You want to look on trend and also up market, not on trend and slightly trashy.
What trends can you not wait for this Spring/Summer?
The transition from Winter to Spring has to my favourite out of all the seasons. I love being able to move away from the everyday jumper and jeans uniform, and into experimenting with bright colours and patterns. There’s something that so exciting about dressing for spring, as you know that warmer days, longer nights and so many adventures are just around the corner. So, today I’m working with Bonobos and sharing my go-to colours, for the spring season; and creating two gorgeous his and hers looks to go along with them.
Red- This never used to be a colour that I gravitated to or that was really even present in my wardrobe, however lately I’m loving it. I think it’s down to the fact that I have a new love for red lipstick, as it’s so feminine and classic. It instantly adds another dimension to an outfit and really pulls it all together. So, my new obsession with red patterned clothing is definitely inspired by my current favourite lip colour. This gorgeous embroided top from River Island is the best way to wear red, as I love the fact it’s still mixed with white and even though the two colours contrast, they work well together to create a beautiful look.
White- Talking of white, this is also one of my go-to colours when it comes to Spring. I love how well it works with my brown hair, and it looks amazing with a golden tan and tan accessories. It’s such a feminine colour, yet it has a real classic vibe and can work for almost anyone in some way. My favourite wear to rock white, during spring is through lace. I love pairing the girly lace with a harsher denim, and creating a really good contrast. I honestly think that’s the trick to white, is to think about how you can pair it will something completely different, or you go for it whole-heartedly and rock the bohemian vibe’s.
Light Blue- I’m all about the lighter denim’s when it comes to spring, and I love being able to pair different lace’s, embroidery’s and textures with a real spring jean. They instantly lift your outfit and bring it bang on trend and in season. I’m really starting to experiment more with blue, as it is supposed to one of my colours I should wear, and move away from my classic black jeans.
Rose Gold- I couldn’t go through this whole blog post without mentioning my favourite metal of all time, and that’s beautiful rose gold. It’s such a feminine metal, and really adds a warmth to your outfit. I love how well it looks with red, white, blue and just my entire spring colour scheme. It’s something different from the traditional harsh gold and silver, and rose gold looks good whether it’s a cheap costume piece, or whether you’ve invested that little bit more for a more luxurious piece.
Blush Pink- Finally, I’ve also been loving blush pink for ages and I’m just going to continue to roll it on into spring. I love how feminine it is, however you can mix it with a faux leather skirt and you’re instantly creating an amazing look. It’s a new neutral, and can almost be worn with any colour and in any way you wish to. It’s the perfect colour for summer weddings, a prom or even just a day out. It’s so super versatile and is a great shade to add to along side your classic monochrome.
This women’s look is a gorgeous formal take on my spring colour palette, with the red prom style dress taking center stage. I love this dress so much it’s even a contender for being my dress for my sixth form leavers ball in July. It’s such a beautiful piece, and creates a real statement being all red. However, the lace pattern makes it much more fresh and spring/summer appropriate.
I’ve then gone along with the rose gold colour palette through out my accessories; with these strappy rose sandals from Pretty Little Thing, and this stunning pearl earrings from Tiffany. I love how these have a crystal encrusted rose gold bar, which contrasts with the pearl and also ties my whole look together. The bag is a unique find from ASOS, and is a little bit of a statement but makes the outfit more casual. However, you could easily swap this with a formal clutch for a special event.
When it comes to the men’s look, I’ve gone for a much more casual vibe that you could wear on a day out or just to have a few drinks at the local pub. It’s super relaxed with this red bomber, from ASOS, that really brings colour to the entire outfit. Bombers are bang on trend at the minute, and are perfect to throw on in the spring when it’s not quite warm enough to just wear a short sleeve shirt. I love how this one is a bit more of a burgundy, which ties in well with all the rest of the muted colour palette.
To pair with the bomber, I’ve gone for a pattern white and navy shirt, with nautical themed sharks on. It adds a bit of pattern and intricacy to the outfit, and I also think that pattern shirts add a bit of fun to a spring/summer outfit. The navy shorts, also from Bonobos tie in with the pattern on the shirt and create an exact colour palette down the centre of the body. Then the bomber is there to bring a more relaxed vibe and style to the outfit. To tie it all together, I’ve picked a brown holdall. This colour looks amazing when paired with navy and would also be a great piece to travel with.

Spring is finally starting to appear, as the evenings get lighter and the weather is getting so much warmer. So, we also have to alter what items we pull out of wardrobe everyday, to suit this new season. This year it’s all about the white that’s contrasted with lot’s of bright tones, especially pink and canary yellow, they’re two massive colours this season. There’s also the classic denim thrown in, with embroidery, lace and also a good love for suede as well. Spring 2017 really is a large mix of different trends, styles and taste’s to form one huge, inclusive fashion season. So, here’s a bit of style inspiration to get your creative styling juices flowing…
Trends are also a massive part of the fashion world, and something that even though we might be completely unaware of, really do rule the entire design world. However, we can’t all afford the latest Gucci belt or the newest Burberry trench, but we can look at the trends for inspiration and make them wearable in everyday style.
The suede trend is still hanging around from when we had the 70’s colour palette revival back in 2015, however its had a bit more of a classic edge put onto it. Now it’s all about using suede in a luxurious way and to add a different element to an outfit. Wearing it through a biker jacket is bang on trend right now, and mix that with the brights trend and you have one high fashion item for 2017. However, I much prefer to keep it more tonal and go for the creams, brown and beige’s, that can be worn with anything and are a true wardrobe staple in summer, when you need a light jacket you can just throw on with your outfit.
The Staple Accessory
We can’t all afford, or even justify in spending hundreds of pounds on the latest white the to hit the catwalk or the newest trench style, however we do all love to invest in a good staple accessory. They’re a perfect way to add a luxury stamp to your outfit and instantly bring your whole look to life. I’m thinking a killer pair of statement red heels, a structured bag or even something designer, if you want to invest in a higher quality piece.
This has to be one of the easiest trends to achieve and one that honestly looks the most effective. When you want to create a really stylish look, the key is to think about different texture’s, tonal colours and different styles. So, think about layering a polo neck under your biker jacket, or add a camisole under your open white shirt. Not only does it look like you’ve put more effort into putting your look together, it also looks so much ore unique and stylish.
London fashion week has to be one of the biggest annual events in the city, and one of the most exciting for fashion designers, bloggers, editors and anyone who is big in the fashion world. I’m thinking Anna Wintour, Lucinda Chambers and maybe a Kardashian or two. I’m sure it’s amazing if you get to visit whilst it’s running despite actually going to watch a show, however for most of us everyday fashion lovers we aren’t that lucky. So, I thought I would bring LFW to you and share some of my favourite street style looks and trends from the event.
Denim: This really is a staple in anyone’s wardrobe and especially for someone who loves fashion and has every type imaginable. So, it’s no wonder this was such a massive street style trend this LFW. Whether it was the return of the denim jacket, but so much more oversized and sometimes embroided, the denim shirt which is great for wrapping around your waist and creating an effortless and cool vibe to your outfit or a bang on trend pair of ripped, distress ( or both) jeans. Denim really is a great foundation for so many looks and is so timeless.
It’s all about the colour: Colour seems to have been a really massive trend on the streets this LFW, as it’s been exploding in so many different styles, patterns and textures. My favourite has to be the multi-coloured fur jacket, this is such a statement piece but yet looks so classy pair with an all black outfit underneath.
Tailoring: This has been a really popular trend this year as many are looking to mix more casual shapes with a structured, tailored shirt or blazer. It’s no longer about the whole entire look being of one style and tailoring is massively popular when used to dress up denim and create a chic, relaxed, professional look. My favourite way has to be through a really well fitting Mac, in in a black, nude or one of this seasons colours.
Jewellery is an accessory I’ve really grown into wearing over the last few years. Before that I was never really into wearing lot’s of jewellery, I barely even wore a watch despite having a set of jewellery that I wear every single day without fail. However, as my collection has started to grow and I’ve gain some more investment pieces, my love for jewellery has also grown. As I’ve grown up my jewellery taste really reflects my taste in clothing, and I love simple classic pieces that are really timeless and I’ll be able to wear for so many years.
Two of the pieces that are most treasured in my collection, have to be my gorgeous Tiffany necklace and my mixed metal one from Links London. I love how they both have a mixture of rose gold and silver, and are a really classic and simple shape. I love how the Tiffany one if so iconic, is able to be worn with any outfit for any occasion and also has a lovely, key to my heart vibe. It’s such an investment piece and something I’ll be able to wear for the rest of my life. Similarly, my Links London one is also a really lovely mixed metal and is two circle’s entwined in each other. I love how chic it is, how I can wear it both casually and with a more dressy outfit, and be able to have it in my collection for years to come. This looks so gorgeous on and I’ll always treasure it as one of my favourite 18th birthday presents.
Rings are one of my latest loves and a piece of jewellery that I’m obsessed with wearing. They’ve even become part of my everyday go-to jewellery pieces and I’m love with how they add something extra to an outfit. In particular, two of my favourite rings have to be my opal ones, which are something that I’ve always wanted to have for a long time. Opal is my birth stone and I’ve just always wanted to have a jewellery piece that really showcase’s how beautiful the stone is and celebrates me and when I was born. I’ve really struggled to find opal rings that are set in a modern way and don’t look old fashioned, and these two silver ones in my collection are two nicest one’s I’ve ever seen. Again, I love how classic and chic these rings are, how they will always be in fashion and can be in my collection for years to come.
A good watch is something that you always need in your collection, and mine from Armani Exchange has to be one of my favourite. I love how the gold and white leather create a really chic and luxe vibe, and will always look super fashionable. It goes with so many different outfit’s and the addition of the gems, on the clock face, make it super glamourous and is totally me. I love to always look glamourous and get dressed up, and this watch is the perfect match for me and my very chic style. However, I really need to a watch battery in this and actually start wearing it again, because I really love it.
Current Jewellery Trends
Even though I really love chic and dainty jewellery, which I can wear everyday; I also love a good statement piece to glam up a basic outfit. They instantly add a focus point to an outfit and are great when you need to transfer from day to night, or want to comfortable but still glam. I’ve written all about one of my favourite statement necklaces, in my party wear accessories post HERE.
Chokers had a real comeback in 2016 and in 2017 it will be no different. The skinny choker in particular looks super chic and stylish, and can instantly add a more edgy vibe to a feminine outfit. My favourite one’s have to be metallic or super skinny and velvet, however I’ve not really incorporated them into my own style yet and would love to experiment with them in 2017.
Statement Ear Cuff
Earring’s are something I love to wear and really can’t live without, to complete my outfit. So, a statement ear cuff is a trend I really like and I love how it can add a sense of glam and intricacy to an outfit. They look really feminine and girly and have been super popular on the catwalk. So, why don’t you try pairing a good statement ear cuff with an everyday outfit, to glam it up a bit?
