Styling The Classic Trench Coat

Styling The Classic Trench Coat

The trench coat is the optimum of a classic and effortlessly chic, item of clothing. It’s a style that’s been around for such a long time, even back to the war, and is always being re-invented every year, to add a fresh, new modern twist to the season. There’s always a trench when it comes to Autumn/Winter and so for me it’s an essential piece to have in your wardrobe. It’s classic, versatile and completely timeless, so you know you can always pop on your favourite one, year after year, and still look on trend; even if you bought it a few seasons ago.

This Calvin Klein, black trench is that classic trench for me, that I pull out every year. I love how this is a really light weight polyester material, which is unusual for trench coats, as they are generally slightly thicker and made out of cotton. So, this Calvin Klein one is a great coat to just throw on, to protect you from the rain, or to just add another layer to your outfit. It’s the perfect colour too, as black goes with everything and always look chic. I love to wear it day to night,  as it’s so easy to pair it with workwear and then swap out your outfit in the evening and throw on the trench, ready for drinks out with the girls.

A Graphic Shirt & Leather Skirt

When it comes to Autumn, it can be so easy to just revert to your go to jeans, boots and a jumper, and you’re ready to go for the day. However, I know I’m not the only one that gets bored of that everyday autumn outfit and want’s to still be warm and look stylish. So, one of my favourite ways to change up my autumn outfit is to wear a skirt. They just instantly add a touch of femininity to your look and change up the dimensions of your outfit.

My favourite type of skirt is a leather mini skirt, as the leather adds texture to your outfit and plays with a different material. I also love it because if you choose your skirt in a block colour, that adds the main pop of colour to your look and then allows you to choose classic colours to pair with it.

This one I’m wearing is from New Look and is the perfect colour for Autumn/Winter, as it’s a burnt orange colour. I also love the cross over detail on the front of this, and how it’s asymmetric. It adds detail to the outfit and the front of the skirt, making the look appear more complex than it actually is. I have some gorgeous skirts like this, from New Look, and they fit amazingly and also aren’t too expensive, so super affordable is you’re shopping on a budget.

In the Autumn, when it’s not too cold, I think a shirt is the perfect companion for a mini skirt. As it’s not quite cold enough for a jumper, but you need something that’s more than just a tee-shirt. So, this black and white shirt, from Vera Moda, is a great way to add pattern to my outfit and interest on my top half. I love to wear them done up all the way or just one button undone, so that when you wear the trench with the look, you can really see the shirt and the entire look.

These type of shirts are super easy to find on the high-street, as there’s always some form of patterned shirt in every shops collection for Autumn/Winter. I’ve had this one for ages, but I love how it still looks classic and can be worn so many years on.

COAT: Calvin Klein | SHIRT: Vera Moda | SKIRT: New Look | BOOTS: River Island

The trench is kind of the only coat you really need when it comes to Autumn, as it can act as both a jacket and a coat. It’s light-weight enough to wear everyday and is versatile enough to be worn with everything. However, no way is this the only coat I own, I would never be able to have such a small coat collection in my life. But, it is often the only coat I will take when I go on holiday or mini breaks. As it saves room, as some coats can be so thick, and is just perfect to throw on, when you have a limited choice of clothes to wear anyway.  As I can’t pack all my clothes, no matter how hard I try to.

COAT: Calvin Klein | SHIRT: Vera Moda | JEANS: Marks & Spencer’s | BOOTS: River Island

A Patterned Shirt & Grey Knee-High’s

Jeans are a massive essential in my wardrobe, no matter what the season, however in the Autumn and Winter black jeans are a true staple in my everyday outfits. They are just so versatile, comfortable and keep me warm, as it starts to get into the colder months. So, I couldn’t show you a look styling the classic trench, without including a pair of black jeans.

I go on and on about these Jeans from Marks & Spencer’s, especially in my outfit posts on my Instagram. However, they are worth all the raving, as they fit amazingly and are my favourite EVER skinny jeans. They are also such good quality and are super affordable, at only around 20.00 a pair. There’s also so many different styles and colours, if skinny jeans aren’t your  thing but you’re still looking for a great pair of good fitting jeans, to add to your wardrobe. It’s not a place I shop that much, and I’m sure not that many of you do either, however, some of their pieces are beautiful and you always know the quality will be amazing.

Then, of course I’m again adding a patterned shirt to my look, but it bright autumnal colours. I love this skirt as it’s such a statement, and the colours of purple, grey, mustard, as just classic for Autumn. In this look I have used the shirt as the main focus of the whole look, and kept the rest simple and classic. This is truly the statement piece of the look and I love it. It also look amazing paired with a dark purple lip.

To finish both looks off, i’m adding a pair of grey suede knee-high boots. They are one of my favourite pairs of boots, from my whole collection, as they are comfortable, stylish, classic and also add a sexy element to the look. They were a a classic boot last Autumn/Winter, and I’m going to rocking them again this year too. This pair are from River Island, however I’m sure there will be lot’s of other similar pairs coming onto the high-street, over the next few months.

How To Nail Wearing Leopard Print

Animal Print is one of the biggest trend this Autumn/ Winter, and is plastered across the catwalk and the high-street, as every shop or designer tries to find their unique way to incorporate it into their collections. It could be a flap on a bag, a statement earring or a full on essential piece for the season. It comes in all shapes, styles and degree’s, you can add as much or as  little as you like.

Personally, my favourite animal print of Autumn/Winter 18 is Leopard Print, as it’s been brought back in a very classic, stylish and effortlessly chic way to our high-street shops. Whether it’s adding a leopard print heel to their shoe collection, a leopard print suede clutch to their handbag range, or adding a statement leopard print coat to the latest fashion range. There’s a piece of this trend for everyone, and it purely depends on your own personal style and how much you love the print, as to how you can nail wearing it this season.

Stick With The Accessories:

An accessory, for me, is the best thing you can invest in when you want to have a piece of a trend. As you can interchange an accessory with every single outfit and it can stay on trend for so much longer. If you think about what style you invest the accessory in, then you could use it for so many years to come. For example, getting a shoe in a classic court style, or a handbag is a satchel style. They are classic and no matter what print they are in, the style will always be in fashion.

They are also a great way to make a statement in a very plain and simple outfit, such as blue jeans and a white tee-shirt. As you can then pair that look with a statement bag, a cool shoe, or both if they are matching and instantly make the plain outfit pop. So, you could go for a bag, like the one on the left, that’s casual and could be worn everyday. Or, you could go for these statement heels, that would be amazing on a night out, paired with a little LBD.

Make A Statement:

This is the best way to rock leopard print if you’re really into the print and have quite a bold style. As this is where you pick the main piece of your outfit, in leopard print, and that makes it a real statement piece. Then,  all the other elements of the look just tone in with it classically and effortlessly. So, when you look at the outfit as a whole, the leopard print stands out, and there is no denying it.

This is also a great way if you wat to invest in the trend heavily, but maybe only in 1 or 2 classic pieces. So, for example, a boyfriend style coat that’s in a leopard print, which is 150.00 or a maxi dress in leopard print, which is 70.00. You’ve spent a lot of money, but chosen to invest it in quality, essential pieces for the season.

If I was going to do this, I would look at brand such as Whistles or French Connection, for classic, items that are on trend but also great quality.

Contrast It:

If you don’t want to make the leopard print the focus of your look, then why don’t you contrast it with a different print, colour or graphic. This way the leopard print becomes part of the entire outfit, not just making the only statement. This almost pairs down the strength of leopard print, and also make sit a bit more casual.

If you’re looking to contrast it with another print, you have to be really careful, otherwise it could be total disaster. So, you need to choose your colour palette carefully, and pick classic and basic colours to contrast it with. For example, pick a print but in black and white, like the striped top on the left or choose a classic jean colour to contrast it with instead. Like the picture below. If I was going to do this, I would choose to contrast it with a graphic tee-shirt or a bold colour, as I prefer to play with texture and colour as opposed to print. But it really depends on your own personal style, as to what you would prefer to do.

Play With Colour:

This is the one that is the most bold, and definitley only for the colour and print lovers out there. This one really does make a statement, as you’re choosing to wear leopard print but not in the conventional colour. It could be one bold colour, like the green jumpsuit below, or multiple bright colours like the coat to the right. It’s a trend for people who love leopard and want it in every colour. However, it would also work if you love leopard print, but the colours aren’t really your thing, so you want to change up the colouring.

If you’re looking for pieces like this, I would check out places such as Zara, River Island, Topshop and for a more expensive option, also try Whistles too. It’s all about going out there and shopping the high-street, seeing what amazing pieces they have to offer.

My University Style Diaries: Colour Blocking And Leather Converse

My University Style Diaries

Nailing my university style is key for me, as I’m studying Fashion  I love how the way I dress can really portray a lot about my ethos as a future buyer and express my love fashion itself. So, creating a style that’s comfortable for everyday uni life, but also stylish and reflects my love for clothing, isn’t always easy. Especially if I’m having an Ugg boots and jeans kind of day. However, over the last year I feel I’ve begun to master it, and that’s why I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite looks with you,
in this new style diary series.

Personally, I believe that if you’re going to work in Fashion, you not only have to talk the talk, but walk the walk and ultimately look the part. I know I wouldn’t talk anyone advising me on style, or trust to buy the latest season’s collections, if they don’t know how to dress themselves everyday. So, I think it’s super important to put thought into what you wear, especially if you want to go into the Fashion industry. I feel that dressing yourself and finding your own style, helps you to understand colour palettes, how to put a look together and to understand the difference between style essentials and trends.

My University style really reflects my own personal taste in clothing, playing with colour blocking and texture, as opposed to print or a lot of bold colours. Therefore, with this outfit I’ve chosen to block the lighter, nude tones from my feet up to my waist, then create a contrast with the black. This kind of plays on the traditional white tee and black jeans vibe, where the darker colour is on the bottom half. As here, the weather was still quite warm, I flipped that rule on it’s head and added a bit more interest to the look.

This is why I love these stone coloured, paper bag waist, cropped trousers from New Look; as they are a great basic for so many different outfits and occasions. They look great paired with converse for a relaxed everyday look, but also fab paired with heels and a graphic tee for a night out. I love their versatility and the fact that New Look them in so many different colours. So, there really is a pair out there for everyone.

This cami top from New Look is a classic, essential piece in my wardrobe, and I honestly couldn’t live without it. It’s the perfect black, strappy camisole that looks good both in the day and at night, and also fit’s amazingly. I love how the lace detail around the neckline adds a bit of femininity, and again plays with texture, one of the key aspects of my personal style. Thank you again New Look, for such a beautiful piece, which I wish you bring out more of in a future collection, as I can’t find any other lace camisole’s that are amazing as this one.

When it comes to the accessories, I like to keep them classic and that’s why I’ve paired it with my go-to everyday jewellery pieces. The star of my collection is this beautiful, rose gold, cluse watch; with it’s simple face and sleek design, that always adds a touch of chic to my outfits. Then, I’ve got my two silver, Joma Jewellery bracelets, which are super comfortable to wear and are an affordable everyday piece of jewellery to wear. Along with that is my loved Links Of London bracelet, which is not only a classic addition to my collection, but also a beautiful anniversary gift from Ed.

The shoes are the final element to my look and probably my favourite piece, as they are comfortable yet chic and super on trend. I love how I can pair them with a girly everyday outfit, and they will instantly fit straight in. They really bridge the gap for me, between a comfortable trainer and a fashionable shoe. Therefore, I’m always wearing them and they just about live on my feet. Thank you Converse, they are such beauties and worth every bit of the 62.99 price tag.

Of course, I can’t forget about my latest designer purchase, this gorgeous pair of tortoise shell sunglasses from Ralph Lauren. They’re a super classic style, and are a match for any one of my outfits. I know I will keep them for many years to come and so far they have definitely been worth the money. You can read all about these beauties, in a blog post I wrote recently HERE.

  • I wanted to say a massive thank you to one of my amazing photographers Elisha, for creating the beautiful shots for this blog post and really bringing it to life.

Styling Embellished Mules

IMG_3353

Building a wardrobe that’s unique and that has individual pieces in it, is something that’s key to my style. I love to have pieces that are classic, but also mix them with items that not everyone would buy or the latest on trend item. For me, that mix really defines my style, and I love to feed that through my casual, evening and special occassion wear.

The latest addition to my ever growing shoe collection is these beautiful Embellished Mules from NA-KD. They are a lovely satin pink colour, with silver embellishment across the front of your foot. They’re a style of shoe I’ve always wanted to try and working with NA-KD gave me the opportunity to try these gorgeous ones. So, now I’ve had these in my wardrobe for a few weeks I thought I would share how I’m planning to style them up.

A Graphic Tee

The combination of this summer graphic tee and the embellished mules creates a beautiful combination, which I really love. The tee is really casual, yet still in classic monochrome colours and with a hint of sparkle with the wording across the front. As the shoes are the complete opposite and are very girly and more of a special occassion shoe.

So, the combination of two creates a really on trend and stylish everyday look. Which is exactly what I’ve gone for in the photos for this post.

-Have Fun with your graphic tee and find one that individual, different and reflects something about you!

-I find some of the best places to find unique graphic tee’s is ASOS, River Island and Mango.

-The best thing about a graphic tee is that it can be styled up or down and if you get the right one it can be a key player in your wardrobe.

Contrasting Shapes

One way I’m really loving to wear these mules is by contrasting them with a different shape, such as this asymetric skirt from NA-KD. I love how the mules are so girly and soft against the foot, and then matching it with a sharp, straight edge or an unsual harder shape. It creates so much interest to the outfit and creates bits of detail everywhere you look.

-Think about asymetric pieces, such as a pencil skirt, off the shoulder top or a dipped hem. It’s all about creating contrast with the shapes within the outfit.

-You could also contrast your nail varnish or nail shape to add detail on the toes, which can really finish the whole look off.

If you’re looking for the perfect new occasion shoe, then I would really recommend a mule. They have a lovely heel, elevate your whole body and make you look super feminine. There’s so many different types of styles and colours, and I’m really loving these beautiful ones from NA-KD.

*This post never would of happened if it wasn’t for the beauties at NA-KD for working with to share some of their beautiful pieces and to my amazing boyfriend, for taking the most beautiful photos for this post.

Is It Worth Investing In Luxury Sunglasses?

IMG_3350IMG_3349

Investing in a luxury piece is something that I don’t ever take lightly and always think about carefully before they become the latest addition to my wardrobe. So choosing the perfect pair of designer sunglasses was no exception. I needed a pair that really could do it all and would last in my collection. The ultimate go-to pair that I would love for years to come.

This gorgeous pair of tortoise shell Ralph Lauren Sunglasses, were the perfect pair and was in love from the moment I tried them on. They feature constantly in my everyday style, look chic when I need to look chic, but also have the ability to pair with a really easy and casual look. So, where they really worth the money and is investing in a pair of designer sunglasses the way to go?

The Pro’s

IMG_3351Sunglasses are one of my favourite summer accessories and instantly add a chic vibe to my outfit. They are my most lived in summer wardrobe piece and if that’s not enough of a reason to invest in a pair of luxury one’s, I don’t know what is!

So, here’s 3 reasons why investing in luxury sunglasses is worth the money:

-They are the perfect way to starting building a designer collection, as they’re not too expensive but give you a really good touch of luxury. They can give you an insight into having a designer item and if you use them enough to make it worth your money.

-You wouldn’t believe it but they actually do make so much difference to your eyes. They feel so different to a cheap high-street pair and are super comfortable to wear throughout the day.

-You look after your skin and your hair in the summer, so you should also look after your eyes. We all know that more expensive shampoo and conditioner protect and nourish your hair, and a pair of luxury sunnies does exactly the same to your eyes; and you’ll only ever have one pair.

The Con`s

IMG_3352However, sunglasses are not a luxury piece that everyone wants to invest in, as they can only be worn during the summer and they can be pretty expensive. They`re not pieces you need in your wardrobe and so can you live without them?

So, here`s 3 downsides to investing in luxury sunglasses:

They can be very expensive for what they are, depending on the brand, shape, style, colouring and design. They all vary a lot and if you love someone more unique, then it’s going to have a higher price point.

They can’t be worn all year round and with everything. They can only be worn in the summer, so are an accessory limited to at the most two seasons of the year.

They can easily get damaged and ruined, so you have to be so careful and make sure you look after them. Keep them in their case, polish them and don’t wear them on your head and stretch the shape.

IMG_3350

For me investing in luxury sunglasses was really worth the money. I chose a pair in a colour and pattern that I loved and found a style that is perfect for any occasion. This pair was also really affordable and with my work discount, I got a pair at a really good price; meaning luxury sunglasses can be affordable when you look around a little bit.

The key for me is to really try on, and do your research making sure you go round and look at the variety of options available; as well as finding a colour and style that you love and suits you.

How do you feel about investing in luxury sunglasses?
