Pleats are one of the most beautiful types of design. They are super feminine and really add a touch of glamour to any outfit, whether it’s day or night. What I love about pleats is how weightless they look and they have such a movement, that allows so many different silhouette’s to be created just from one simple garment. They create a softness that can’t really be achieved by any other type of technique in fashion, and can be done in so many different ways, that you can cater them to the individual piece of clothing and it’s purpose. There’s the knife pleat, where all the pleats fold one way, the elite pleat where they are much smaller and intricate, and on the other hand you’ve got the classic school skirt box pleat. Maybe not the type of pleat you would always want to re-create, but they can look beautiful for the right occasion.
Pleats are a key piece through this autumn/winter, that are featured in every trend. From animal print, to leather and even in tweed (where they super beautiful). So no matter what trend of the season you like, you can then apply a beautiful pleat to finish the trend off. It also doesn’t matter if you don’t like the classic pleated skirt, because I love them but they just don’t love my hips. So you can even find pleats in accessories; as well as tops and trousers too.
To inspire you to add a pleat or two into your wardrobe, I’ve trawled both the high-street and online stores, to pick out my top 10 pleated items for this season. 10 different ways you can rock the pleat, in a variety of different colours, styles and patterns…
The Printed Midi Skirt
This is for the all the girls who are already in love with the pleated midi skirt and want to take it to a new level. So this a great way to do that, by adding in a print. This one is particularly beautiful as it also takes in the animal print trend, but makes it look super chic. I love the mix between the print, but the restriction of only the blue and white make it look really classic. If you would like to pick up this beauty, just head over to ASOS (the link is just above).
The Hair Scarf
Head scarves are one of the biggest accessory trends of autumn/winter 2018 and really add another dimension to an outfit. I love how they look so beautiful and feminine, but can also add another texture to an outfit as well. This is especially what this piece from New look would do, due to its pleated design, which is great both tied around the head or more casually around a hair bobble with a sleek low ponytail. If you love this piece, you can pick one up in New Look for 8.00, but there`s also some beautiful ones in Zara too.
The Pleated Cuffs
These are the easiest way to invest in an autumn/ winter trend affordably, when you only want a quick snapshot of the trend in your outfit. They are able to be added to any basic white or coloured shirt, but would also look great as a colour block cuff on the arms of a patterned shirt too. These are super unique, and can be picked up really easily from the beauties at ASOS.
